【摘要】:Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofacidicconstituentsinneworusedpetroleumproductsandlubricantssolubleornearlysolubleinmixturesoftoluene,andisopropylalcohol.ThetestmethodisespeciallyintendedforcasesinwhichtheamountofsampleavailabletobeanalyzedistoosmalltoallowaccurateanalysisbyTestMethodsD974orD664.Itisapplicableforthedeterminationofacidshavingdissociationconstantsinwaterlargerthan10.Extremelyweakacidshavingdissociationconstantssmallerthan10donotinterfere.Saltstitrateiftheirhydrolysisconstantsarelargerthan10.Thistestmethodcanbeusedtoindicaterelativechangesinacidnumberthatoccurinanoilduringuseunderoxidizingconditions.Althoughthetitrationismadeunderdefiniteequilibriumconditions,themethoddoesnotmeasureanabsoluteacidicpropertythatcanbeusedtopredictperformanceofanoilunderserviceconditions.Nogeneralrelationshipbetweenbearingcorrosionandacidnumberisknown.SincethistestmethodrequiressubstantiallylesssamplethanTestMethodsD974orD664,itprovidesanadvantageousmeansofmonitoringanoxidationtestbychangesinacidnumberby(1)minimizingtestsampledepletionforacidnumberanalysesandthusminimizingthedisturbanceofthetestor(2)allowingadditionalacidnumberanalysestobemadewhilemaintainingthesametestsampledepletionandthusprovidingadditionaldata.Note1-Someoils,suchasmanycuttingoils,rust-proofingoils,andsimilarcompoundedoils,orexcessivelydark-coloredoils,maybemoredifficulttoanalyzebythistestmethodduetoobscurityofthecolor-indicatorendpoint.TheseoilscanbeanalyzedbyTestMethodD664providedsufficientsampleisavailable.However,thissituationismuchlesslikelyusingTestMethodD3339thanusingTestMethodD974duetotheuseofamorehighlydilutesampleduringthetitrationandduetothegreaterstabilityoftheendpointcolorchange.TheacidnumbersobtainedbyTestMethodD3339mayormaynotbenumericallythesameasthoseobtainedbyTestMethodD664buttheyshouldbeofthesameorderofmagnitude.Note2-TheresultsobtainedusingthismethodhavebeenfoundtobenumericallythesameasthoseobtainedusingTestMethodD974,withintheprecisionofthetwomethods,forneworoxidizedlubricantsofthetypeprimarilyintendedforhydraulicorsteamturbinetypeservice.TheoxidizedlubricantswereobtainedusingtheTestMethodD943oxidationtest.Thiscorrelationisshownbythecorrelationcoefficientr=0.989withslopes=+1.017andintercepty=+0.029,calculatedusingtheacidnumbersobtainedusingbothtitrationmethodsforthesamplesusedfortheprecisionstatement(12.2).ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecificwarningstatements,seeSections7and9,A1.1.4,A2.3.1,andA2.10.1.
