【摘要】:Thispracticeprovidesameansforobtainingaquantitativeestimateofapavementpropertydefinedasroughnessusinglongitudinalprofilemeasuringequipment.TheIRIisportableinthatitcanbeobtainedfromlongitudinalprofilesobtainedwithavarietyofinstruments.TheIRIisstablewithtimebecausetrueIRIisbasedontheconceptofatruelongitudinalprofile,ratherthanthephysicalpropertiesofaparticulartypeofinstrument.Roughnessinformationisausefulinputtothepavementmanagementsystems(PMS)maintainedbytransportationagencies.TheIRIfortherightwheeltrackisthemeasurementofroadsurfaceroughnessspecifiedbytheFederalHighwayAdministration(FHWA)astheinputtotheirHighwayPerformanceMonitoringSystem(HPMS).Whenprofilesaremeasuredsimultaneouslyforbothtraveledwheeltracks,thentheMRIisconsideredtobeabettermeasureofroadsurfaceroughnessthantheIRIforeitherwheeltrack.Note18212;TheMRIscaleisidenticaltotheIRIscale.IRIcanbeinterpretedastheoutputofanidealizedresponse-typemeasuringsystem(seeTestMethodE1082andSpecificationE1215),wherethephysicalvehicleandinstrumentationarereplacedwithamathematicalmodel.Theunitsofslopecorrespondtoaccumulatedsuspensionmotions(forexample,metres),dividedbythedistancetraveled(forexample,kilometres).IRIisausefulcalibrationreferenceforresponse-typesystemsthatestimateroughnessbymeasuringvehicularresponse(seeTestMethodE1082andSpecificationE1215).IRIcanalsobeinterpretedasaverageabsoluteslopeoftheprofile,filteredmathematicallytomodifytheamplitudesassociatedwithdifferentwavelengths(3).1.1ThispracticecoversthemathematicalprocessingoflongitudinalprofilemeasurementstoproducearoadroughnessstatisticcalledtheInternationalRoughnessIndex(IRI).1.2Theintentistoprovideastandardpracticeforcomputingandreportinganestimateofroadroughnessforhighwaypavements.1.3ThispracticeisbasedonanalgorithmdevelopedinTheInternationalRoadRoughnessExperimentsponsoredbyanumberofinstitutionsincludingtheWorldBankandreportedintwoWorldBankTechnicalPapers(1,2).AdditionaltechnicalinformationisprovidedintwoTransportationResearchBoard(TRB)papers(3,4).1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Theinch-poundunitsgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
